I love Japanese green tea leaves with roasted rice, hot or cold. The tea is called genmaicha (pronounced with a hard g+enmycha). I recently flavored my kefir water with the tea together with grated apples and fresh mint leaves. It's the best refreshing healthy summer drink.
Today for lunch I had hot genmaicha added to freshly steamed Japanese short-grain rice. The meal was washed down with the kefir drink. The more genmaicha, the better.
freshly cooked Japanese rice
freshly brewed genmaicha
shaved bonito flakes
snipped roasted seaweed (nori)
- Place preferred amount of hot rice in a bowl. Sprinkle with salt and soysauce. Pour genmaicha over rice. Top with topping of choice. Serve immediately.
